Our Curriculum
Uno Dos Tres Academy uses a thematic curriculum designed by our staff; we adjust themes on a monthly basis or depending on the student’s interests. The children’s daily classroom routine is comprised of a combination of teacher-lead and child-lead activities. Our teachers believe that children learn best through self-directed play, and because of this we offer the following activities throughout the day.
Language: Auditory and vocabulary skills will be developed through story time, labeling materials, classroom rules and areas in the preschool. Children will be able to learn cooperative listening skills and be able to openly express their feelings and needs. The classroom incorporates Spanish 50% of the time into all daily activities and routines. We understand that children learn on their own pace and our teachers foster each child’s individual needs.
Creative Arts: Your child will learn to employ and stretch his or her imagination, express feelings and ideas through the use of mixed media such as clay, paint, crayons, household products and natural resources.
Dramatic Play: Most children learn best when left to play on their own. Your child will be able to act out various occupations, tasks and learn about self-identity, the community and the world around them and how to deal with problem-solving skills. Each month our teachers will work to develop new themes that children are interested in.
Manipulative: In the classroom eye-hand coordination and perceptual skills will be fostered through age appropriate and developmentally appropriate materials and activities. We will use building blocks, Lego’s, tools, and many more materials that assist with fine motor development.
Math: The classroom will provide age appropriate math manipulatives. Which introduce your child to the concepts of counting, sorting, recognitions of shapes, and other math principles. Our teachers teach math in a practical manner, when children are ready and where children can learn on their own speed.
Science: Our children are introduced to science and nature by exploring their environment. They learn about the world in which we live in, through a variety of experiences. Our teachers teach science in an age appropriate manner, bringing the outside world indoors.
Music and Movement: Through the use of Spanish music and songs we will develop your child's rhythm and listening skills, this will provide them with the opportunity to grasp the Spanish language using their entire bodies, and listening skills.
Anti-bias Curriculum: We value the diversity and culture of every child, teacher and family in our preschool, therefore, our classrooms will learn about each other’s culture through music, games, pictures, and show and tell. We will do this on a monthly basis.
Our Philosophy
Uno Dos Tres Academy follows a Developmentally Appropriate Philosophy. Every child is taught in a manner that matches the way they develop and learn, and we challenge every child just beyond the level of their present ability. We provide constant opportunities to practice newly acquired skills, and opportunities to learn through play and social interaction. Children are provided with the skills that will allow them to excel in the Spanish language later in life.
Following are the five guidelines for Developmentally Appropriate Practice that Uno Dos Tres Academy follows;
Create a caring community of learners. Developmentally appropriate practices supports, the development of relationships between adults and children, among children, among teachers, and between families and teachers.
Teach to enhance development and learning. Early childhood teachers strive to achieve a balance between guiding children’s learning and following their lead.
Construct appropriate curriculum. The content of early childhood curriculum includes the subject matter, social or cultural values, parents’ input, and the age and experience of the children.
Assess children’s learning and development. Assessment of individual children’s development and learning is essential for planning and implementing appropriate curriculum
Establish mutually beneficial relationships with families. Developmentally appropriate practices evolve from a deep knowledge of individual children and the context within they develop and learn. The younger the child, the more necessary it is for care givers and teachers to acquire this knowledge through relationships with children’s families.
