Guidance
Uno Dos Tres Academy believes in assisting children in developing self-control and engaging in socially acceptable behaviors. Adults will model and encourage techniques of discipline that are fair, consistent, and respectful of children and their needs. Guidance is required to ensure order, prevent injury, and to ensure that a child’s behavior is not infringing on the rights of others. We believe it is important to provide a positive and safe space for every child, so that children are respected and they themselves are respecting the space, feelings, and actions of others.
Guidance Strategies:
-
Teachers are here to explain to the children what behavior is acceptable and explain the reasons for the limits, doing so in a positive way.
-
We focus on the child’s behavior, rather than on the child.
-
We give children time to respond to the expectations.
-
We reinforce and model appropriate behavior.
-
We are willing to listen and respond in a fair and supportive manner.
-
We anticipate potential difficulties and redirect children if needed.
Discipline
Here at Uno Dos Tres Academy, we believe in respecting every child’s space, property, and action. We utilize supportive and fair discipline techniques that help children acknowledge the behavior, make choices about the solution and be responsible for age-appropriate consequences. We want children to learn to make appropriate choices by themselves and not rely on adults to control their behavior for them. Children at the center are respected as individuals and are shown to respect others. Our teachers use clear, simple statements about what is appropriate, and model the behavior they encourage in the children.
immunization policy
At Uno Dos Tres Academy (UDT), we are committed to maintaining a pro-vaccination community. We prioritize vaccination and strive to create a safe and secure environment for everyone enrolled in our academy. Attending children must have completed the recommended vaccines for their age. Children may be exempted from a vaccine requirement for a medical or non-medical reason. We will work to assist families experiencing barriers to having their child receive all vaccines. After 90 days, UDT has the right to terminate enrollment, if vaccine status was not met, or family has not provided the school with an approved exemption. UDT parents and staff must be fully vaccinated for COVID and provide proof of their status. By September 1st, 2023, all eligible children are required to have their COVID vaccine to be enrolled. Uno Dos Tres Academy is mandated by Multnomah County to report children’s vaccine status.
Tree nut & peanut free policy
We are a Tree Nut & Peanut free school. All foods provided by the school for children during snack time are peanut/nut-free. Items that a parent packs for their child must not contain peanut/tree-nuts or we will not be able to give the item to your child. If providing a snack for the entire class, the item must be peanut/nut free, pre-packaged and store bought.
Inclement Weather Policy
Uno Dos Tres Academy follows Portland Public School Inclement Weather Policy to determine the appropriate course of action in cases of severe weather. The decision making process involves a thorough assessment of various factor, including weather forecase, precipitation, snow, and/or ice accumulation in the Portland Metro area, and road condition reports from local news sources. Once PPS has decided, we promptly notify families though email and post on our private Facebook page. Our commitment is to prioritize the safety of our staff and families. Please refer to local news sources for updates regarding PPS inclement weather decisions and any adjustments to our operating schedule.
Here is how we respond to different scenarios:
-
If PPS is closed, UDT will be closed for the entire day to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families.
-
If PPS has a late start, UDT will open at 10:30am to allow for safer travel conditions.
-
If conditions worsen during the school day, UDT will have an early dismissal, ensuring that closure takes place no later than 2:30pm, allowing time for students and staff to travel home safely.
